About The Artists
Daniel SlackTwenty-five years of dedication to the art of pottery has led Daniel Slack to the distinctive forms and glaze technique that sets his art apart from other ceramic artists. The electric firing process, while gaining in popularity, has long been considered a second-rate and limited firing process, inferior to the gas or wood-fired kiln. Since 1998, Daniel has been perfecting a high-fired glaze technique that demonstrates the electric kiln to be a complex and sophisticated as the artist himself. The 2002 Colorado Clay Exhibition in Golden, Colorado, brought him the award for Outstanding Glaze Technique. Another distinctive feature of Daniel’s pottery is his loyalty to the vessel. Functionality is a paramount value, marking a boundary that he chooses not to cross. He strives for elegance of form and finesse of execution. He states that: “The age old forms are inviolate to me . I want to celebrate those forms.” Recently, Daniel began producing a line of hand thrown, hand painted dinnerware of original design. Called Horizon Dinnerware, the handmade dishes evoke the imagery of the open vistas of his western clime. His numerous galleries may be contacted through the Links page of this website. |
Theresa RoseThe proverbial “power behind the throne” Theresa was a painter and graphic designer with a few credentials of her own when she met Daniel Slack. The three-dimensional canvases provided by her husband proved irresistible to Theresa, who began developing designs of her own, then hand painting them on the low-fire earthenware pottery. Her whimsical Greek and Mexican inspired works have proved popular with art buyers and galleries but she is also inspired by Celtic design. Theresa’s other job has been to encourage her talented but shy husband to come out of the studio and “go public” with his work. Having come from a family of musicians, artists and dancers, she had a clear understanding of what the “job” of being an artist actually meant. It was she who insisted on the slides, show entries and promotions that began to build Cache La Pottery into a working pottery. Her graphic experience gave her the know-how to create effective promotions. This website, in conjunction with the UCT Digital Design company, is her creation. Cache La Pottery Gallery Our latest push has been to establish an on site gallery. The large lichen colored barn containing the pottery works, and pictured on the home page, is fortuitiously located on the main road to Red Feather Lakes - a busy vacationing and recreation area. And the largest Buddhist shrine in the country is just a few miles away. We feel the gallery will be a welcome and profitable addition to the community. So, if you happen to be in the area, definitely look us up. |
